Ten convicted of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the husband and wife's significant age difference.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's identity.
Their complaint contends that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
